At our meeting on Thursday there was a change of plan due to the demonstrator we had booked being unable to attend due to illness.
However, we did manage to get Pat Carroll from Ireland to do an Interactive Remote Demonstration.
We eventually got the technology working thanks to Howard Hughes and Pat was underway supported by Helen Bailey.
How things have moved on since Covid, Pat in Ireland, Helen in Jordie Land and 31 of us, in Wales at our meeting.
Pat had decided to do a round bowl with a square frame and a lid.
He emphasized the need to ensure the blank is perfectly square, otherwise when turning the internal bowl round, you would get it off centre.
The base was approximately 6-inch square by 2-inch deep the blank for the lid was 5-inch by 2-inch. Putting the base on to a screw chuck he started to turn, it is important to keep your hands out of the way of the square whilst turning the internal bowl. He took the external rim down to about 5mm then reversing to do the base of the square and the base of the bowl.
Then starting on the lid with a simple concave and convex shape but as this was to be a functional piece the lid was to be loose so it could be opened without difficulty.
There is a full recording of the Demonstration available to club member for 30 days, details will be sent out by email to members.
Next month we have live demonstration by Chris Parker.
Again, it was great to see so many of our members attend and enjoy the evening
